From Walker & Miles Atlas -
There has been little attempt made inthe last few years to increase the proportions of Strathallan. The agriculturists of the neighbourhood are too opulent for that; Mr. Lappin with his store, the post office and a large and comfortable hotel may be said to be the place himself. It is the headquarters of one of the companies of the Oxford Rifles, and the strength, efficiency and appearance of that corps at annual training, indicate the interest the people take in an important institution in our economy.
