Served: Canada; Joined No. 12 Elementary Flight Training School at Sky Harbour, Goderich as a mechanic in November 1942 - duties included maintaining the de Havilland Tiger Moth planes used to train pilots from all corners of the globe under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.
After the War: Started Schaefer's Sunoco Service Station in Tavistock 1945-1975; Became Deputy Clerk/Treasurer for the Township of East Zorra/Tavistock in 1975

Comments: When Sky Harbour disbanded in July 1944, he and Miriam moved to Toronto where Walter finished out the war at Victory Aircraft in Malton where the Avro Lancaster heavy bomber was produced; was an Engine Modifications Mechanic working on V-12 Merlin engines; Tavistock Rotary Club; Tavistock Men's Club; Tavistock Masonic Lodge and Tavistock Recreation Commission; served on Trinity Lutheran Church Council
