Edward Bauer (1847-1931)
1847 - Born in (Darmstadt) Germany. Came to Canada when he was but 7 years of age, his people first settling in New Hamburg. He later moved to Zurich, then to Bright where Mr. Bauer was recognized as an outstanding carriage builder (also Sebastopol). Coming to Tavistock he married Katherine Kalbfleisch, who predeceased him. He bought the hotel just north of the railway track on Woodstock Street, which since that time has been known as Bauer's Hotel and which he successfully conducted for 31 years. He gave up the hotel business some years ago and has lived a retired life ever since.
Two sons: George of Tavistock (1879-1932) born in log house and Fred of Kitchener. One daughter: Sadie (Mrs. P.C. Brickner) of London.
8 grandchildren Lenore, Elvira and Georgina of Tavistock; Marie, Carl and Edward Brickner of London; Mildred and Helen Bauer of Kitchener.
