Dr. James P. Rankin (1854-1934)
Born in 1854 in East Zorra Township a son of David and Jane Rankin, formerly of Glasgow, Scotland. Later moved to farm in South Easthope Township and attended Harmony Public School. 1878 graduated from Trinity Medical School, Toronto with further medical training in Great Britain. 1879 opened an office in a building opposite Loth's Hotel and for a time lived in the John Kalbfleisch home [Francis Funeral Home - 1967]. April 11, 1885 purchased the home of George and August Schaefer. December 21, 1888 sold his practice in Tavistock to M. Steele and moved to Stratford to conduct a medical practice. Became prominent in municipal, political and military affairs. 1908-11 represented Perth as Liberal candidate, 1921-25 in the House of Commons, Ottawa and appointed to the Senate.
Died in Stratford on June 15, 1934.
