John McKay (1847-1909): Born October 20, 1847 on Lot 5 or 6, 9th line, East Zorra, a short distance from Woodstock. Parents moved to Lot 28, Con. 11, East Zorra shortly after his birth. Served on Township Council. Spring of 1894 removed to the village of Tavistock, taking charge of the blacksmithing establishment at the entry to the village of the 12th line of East Zorra. Here he remained for eight years. In 1902 he moved to Woodstock, 200 Light St. For several years he engineered the city roller in connection with street improvements. Survived by sons - Alexander, Lot 25, Con. 10; Thomas of Parry Sound, John, Matthew of Clearwater, Man.; Frank on the old homestead; daughters - Mrs. W. A. Bull, Woodstock and Miss Nettie, Miss Annie and Miss Nina at home. Buried in McTavish Cemetery. (from Sentinel Review June 21, 1909). [ads in Gazette, also have copy of invoice with letterhead].
