Commercial Hotel Postal Stationary card c.1882

This is an example of a Postal Stationery Card from the Pioneer Era of Postcards (1871 to 1898). These cards were used for business purposes to make appointments, confirm orders and arrange deliveries. In that era, the front or stamped side of the card was to be used for the address only. Nothing else could be written or printed upon it. The message was to be written on the reverse side. In this case, the writer is informing his customer that his promissory note is due. On the 3-cent stamp is an image of Queen Victoria. John Krug who donated the card suggests that the card dates to about 1882 as the firm of Adams and Burns dissolved in that year. The Commercial Hotel owner John Loth has a listing in the Mercantile Agency Reference Books for the years 1877 to 1887.
