The woollen mill was first established by Mr. Preston in 1868, who sold out in 1869 to John Steinman and John Gerhardt. Steinman bought out Gerhardt and then in 1877 sold the business to James G. Field and Thomas E. Hetherington and Field later bought out Hetherington.
