Did you ever wonder what the basement storage area looks like at the Tavistock museum and archives? Wonder no more. We don’t give tours of the basement but occasionally we give sneak peeks.
There are three separate basement storage areas. This is the primary one at the front of the building. In this space we store everything from oil paintings to dental equipment to shoe lasts. The newel post from The Maples, when it was a private home, is here. So is a wool carder and Tavistock’s first radio. Many other items in our collection add to the eclectic mix in the front basement. Of prime importance, this is where we store the glass negatives from our Lemp Studio Collection. They are all safely housed in the specially-made wooden boxes seen in this photo.
What are in the other two basement storage areas? Stay tuned for another sneak peek.
