After the fighting ended, Fisher remained in the army and went on to spend better than a decade at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown as a member of the Black Watch, also known as the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada. Fisher also served more than a year in Korea following the war there. That particular conflict which lasted from 1950 to 1953 saw 26,000 Canadians serve; 516 were killed and 1.567 were wounded. Many people from Fredericton and Oromacto, such as Harold Perrin, John Poole. Joe Mombourquette. Jerry Vanstone and Eugene McBain fought in the war. "There had been about three months of peace when we (Black Watch) got there," Fisher recalled. "The brigade that had been fighting the North Koreans (and Chinese) was still there. I think they were ready to get out. They were miserable." "The weather at the time was cold and the conditions were filthy", Fisher said. Fisher also spent time on United Nations duty in Cyprus before retiring from the military on March 6. 1971.
