Adam Seltzer erected the first bake shop in the village at 18 Hope Street East in 1888 between the rail line and mill siding. On July 27, 1903 the shop burned, but was rebuilt.
On June 30, 1910, Fred Weston bought the store from a Harry Weitzel. He was very involved in the community and his employee Henry "Ike" Eckstein peddled bread and other baked goods in a van in the country for approximately 40 years. They made the best "Hot Cross Buns".
